Maximum Motorsports’ rear lower control arms plant your rubber firmly to the road. Our design will give you more traction with none of the poor handling characteristics common with other aftermarket control arms.

• Their unique bushing design provides superior control of the axle’s location, without binding the suspension.

• The optional ride height adjustability feature gives you exceptional flexibility to accommodate all your racing needs.

Stop wheel hop
Improve your Mustang’s traction by reducing axle windup – the primary cause of wheel hop. Axle windup is caused by two independent deflections: the control arms and the rubber bushings.
Control arm deflection in our arms is eliminated with a design that’s three to four times stiffer than stock. Deflection of the factory rubber bushings was eliminated with our unique bushing design – the result of extensive motion analysis of what actually occurs in the rear suspension.

Good research, the basis of good engineering
Wheel rate refers to the rate of roll stiffness as measured at the wheel. Total wheel rate is the sum of the swaybar wheel rate, the wheel rate of the springs, and the wheel rate of any suspension binding (restriction of movement).
The bushing configuration of Maximum Motorsports’ rear lower control arms was carefully designed to minimize binding of suspension movement. Most aftermarket control arms use bushing designs which actually cause an increase in suspension bind.
To analyze the geometry involved, Maximum Motorsports used a full scale mock up of the rear suspension. When we tested other aftermarket control arms that had hard urethane bushings at each end, we found they increased the wheel rate by 400%. As little as a 10% change in wheel rate can noticeably affect the handling balance of the car.
So why does the wheel rate increase? In a 4-link suspension design, the control arms do not simply pivot, they also move sideways in an angular motion. If that angular motion is restricted because of a poor bushing design, the suspension will bind up. That binding increases wheel rate which in turn causes unpredictable performance – not to mention damage to the torque boxes. To eliminate this evil situation, MM designed a bushing configuration that allows freedom of suspension movement yet continues to positively locate the axle in the fore and aft directions.

At the chassis end: The 3-piece urethane bushing has a hard inner portion to prevent fore and aft deflection, and softer outer portions to allow the angular motion necessary to prevent bind.

At the axle end: We use a Teflon-lined spherical bearing to provide the greater angular motion required to prevent suspension bind. This also positively locates the rear axle.

Hey look, new slicks!
Maximum Motorsports’ Adjustable Rear Lower Control Arms let you change your ride height to suit your needs. Taller slicks can be a way to lower ETs. Now you can fit them under your car. The easy adjustment of MM’s adjustable control arms lets you raise rear ride height up to 2 inches, or lower it as much as 1 inch. A heavy duty weight jack bolt makes this possible. The spring perch design allows easy height changes without jacking up your car.

Multi-Purpose Arms
With the MM Rear Lower Control Arms, many things are possible.

  • Ride height can be adjusted to improve appearance.
  • Road racers and autocrossers can set corner weights and ride height for optimum handling.
  • You can even raise the rear of your fully-loaded car and drive to the races without bottoming out!
